  Murji says
“Our craft is our identity. As a person should live with and by his/her identity, we weavers have to live by our craft. If we lose that, we will lose our identity”

Murji's family belongs to Bhujodi village. His father, the late Hamirbhai, worked with the Bhujodi Weavers’ Cooperative and contributed significantly to the welfare of weavers. Hamirbhai believed that weaving is second need of society, only after food and water, and it has the strength to protect and cover society. Following his father’s belief and work, Murjibhai has struggled to maintain independence as a crafts person. Murjibhai learned his craft from his father and brother at an early age. After his father’s death, during crisis times he went to work for a local industry, but he lasted there for only two days. His feeling for his art was too strong. Murjibhai took a loan of RS 30,000 to continue his craft, and today he is an independent artisan with 3 artisans working for him.

Murjibhai has traveled to Delhi, Baroda, and Ahmedabad to attend exhibitions organized by NGOs to sell his products. He also attends workshops and exhibitions organized by Gushil, a Government agency. A believer of St. Kabir, Murjibhai feels that, “Our craft is our identity. As a person should live with and by his/her identity, we weavers have to live by our craft. If we lose that, we will lose our identity.” He believes that struggle is inevitable if you want to work as an independent artisan.
