Puroshottam was born and brought up in Bhujodi village, world famous for its weaving. His grandfather was a renowned weaver and one of the founders of the Bhujodi weavers’ cooperative society. The family lost its glory when Puroshottam’s father died in 2000. Puroshottam had to take a part time job in a local NGO to supplement the family income. He joined KRV while continuing this job. Puroshottam learned weaving from his brother and father. He began with finishing work and gradually became expert in all weaving skills. Today he weaves in his spare time, along with his two brothers.
In 2001, after the earthquake, Puroshottam and other artisans of Kutch attended an exhibition in Delhi organized by FICCI - CARE.
He also participated in a craft fair in Mumbai organized by Ashapura Craft Park. Puroshottam believes that the market plays a
crucial role in the survival of a crafts person. Thus, artisans should create designs and products keeping the market in mind.
Puroshottam has a dream to start his own weaving studio with his brothers. He wants to earn fame and bring back the glory of his
family during his grandfather’s time.
