Monghiben,
the youngest daughter, lives with her parents in Tunda Vandh. Her father was a supervisor for government labour work in nearby Khakhar and Kandagara, and today herds cows and buffalo. Her Mother, Khetuben, graduated in the first KRV class, in 2006. Monghiben passed 7th grade. After that, she wanted to learn embroidery, and learned from her mother and neighbors. Monghiben has never traveled outside Kutch, and she has never done labour work, although she has done embroidery on commission for other women of the village.
“A good artisan does good design,” Monghiben says. “Embroidery is our tradition. It looks good.” Monghiben
feels that those who are educated don’t like embroidery as much, but those who
embroider like new designs.
After
graduation, Monghiben served as a mentor for the class
of 2011 and 2012. She has served as a very successful
design intern.
