Hansraj comes from a family well reputed in the weaving community of Bhujodi. His grandfather, Premjibhai, was given the Shilp Guru award, the highest recognition for a senior artisan. His father and uncles all have President’s awards for craftsmanship, and Hansraj was also given a President’s award for his weaving.

Hansraj learned weaving from his family while studying, and joined the family business after finishing 7th grade. His uncle was in the first class of Kala Raksha Vidhyalaya. Seeing how design education benefited him, Hansraj was keen to join the course. He believes that a good artisan works honestly and uses his traditions wisely. It is Hansraj’s wish to define his own style and create new designs that perpetuate his family’s honour.
