Hetalben's
parents were born in Sindh,
and migrated to Gujarat in 1972. Her mother grew up in
Tharad, and married in Pragpur II. Her father is a
mason. She has two brothers, one elder and one younger.
Hetalben went to 6th grade, and enjoyed school. But she
could not finish the year because the family moved to
Bhachau at that time, and the teacher said there was no
point enrolling now. Hetalben learned embroidery herself
when she was in 4th grade, by watching, she says. She
has done Kala Raksha work, and with her earnings
purchased silver anklets.
A good
artisan, in Hetalben's view, does good design and
composition. She believes that embroidery will increase
because it looks good and people like it. Hetalben saw
the KRV Convocation Mela five times and was inspired to
take the course. Her parents did not oppose her. She
dreams of becoming a designer.
