Khetuben learned embroidery from her mother and aunts in Nakhtrana when she was 12. That was education in those
days, she says. After marriage and moving to Vandh, she joined Kala Raksha and has worked with the NGO for 10 years. Khetuben
has gone to Delhi and Mumbai to attend sales and gain market feedback on Rabari work. She is also a member of the Wages
Committee and the Design Committee. Khetuben has attended design workshops conducted by Nita Thakore and The Creative
Thread Trust (France).
A good artisan is intelligent, she believes. She must be peaceful and concentrate, and she must know the rules of tradition. Her wish
is for embroidery to continue, because it is a part of Rabari identity. But with experience, artisans gain the confidence to venture
beyond tradition too.
