Hinaben is the third of four sisters and a brother. The family migrated from Sindh in 1972 and lives in Sumrasar. Hinaben’s mother is one of the first embroiderers at Kala Raksha. Her father, an officer in the Border Wing, took college courses and wanted his daughters to study. Hinaben studied to 7th grade, but after that would have had to go to Bhuj. Instead, she learned embroidery from her sister Varsha, who graduated from KRV in 2007. Having learned suf only two years ago, Hinaben has begun to embroider for Kala Raksha. She has so far not traveled outside Kutch, except for a trip to Tharad to visit relatives when she was eleven.
A good artisan knows design, in Hinaben’s opinion, and does good work.
She hopes to follow her sister’s example and learn to design her own work at Kala Raksha Vidhyalaya.
